On page 140 of the book, the Champlevé variations are listed. The second one descries the Pierced and Soldered method of Champleve. What it doesn't say, is that if you use sterling silver, not fine silver, after the enameling is done, you can solder the piece's finding onto the back, with a torch, using hard solder. Hard must be used because the enamel has to refuse properly unless it will crack and hard solder is the lowest temperature solder for doing that. Of course the piece must be positioned so that the enamel is not touching anything so as not to ruin your enamel when soldering the final step. The other way to do this is to solder on the finding first and because there is no counter enamel covering the solder seam, either fire at a lower temperature or "dirty" the solder joint.
